New Student Programs
The transition from high school to college is exciting and overwhelming, both for new students and for their families. Student Development has designed a series of programs that help our incoming students make the most of their college experience and that facilitate a successful transition into the academic, social, and spiritual life of the UD community.
Beginning with New Student Orientation, held the weekend before classes begin in January for Spring term and mid-August for fall term, students are challenged and encouraged to take their first steps toward deep and meaningful academic engagement. This involves a rich experience of sustaining relationships with fellow students, faculty, and staff; and the discovery of their passionate purpose for what they hope to accomplish during their years at UD.
Throughout the academic year, conversations of importance to students are fostered through presentations on topics ranging from establishing healthy relationships to developing study skills.
