First Year Service Project
2011 New Student Orientation Service Project
The New Student Orientation Leaders are excited to add a service component to the orientation program this year. Selecting an organization that would benefit our local Dayton community and the educational development of children and young adults of our area was important to the leadership team.
Crayons to Classrooms, a nonprofit teacher resource center, was selected as the recipient. Crayons to Classrooms helps under-funded teachers from low-income schools in the Dayton region obtain free school supplies for their economically disadvantaged students. Supplies are provided at no cost to teachers, families or schools. Crayons to Classrooms believes no child should go to school without the basic supplies needed for learning. We also believe if teachers and students have the tools to succeed – they will. To participate, bring one of the suggested items below to the President’s Welcome, Saturday, August 20 and look for the drop off location in the Concourse.
Teachers request these items most often:
Folders
Scissors
Rulers
Markers
Notebooks
Facial tissue
Pencils
Pens
Crayons (24 count)
Glue sticks
Filler paper
Construction paper
Crayons to Classrooms representatives will be present at the New Student Orientation closing event on Tuesday, August 23 to accept the donation from the University of Dayton incoming class of 2011.
