Orientation Applications
New Student Orientation 2012
The office of New Student Programs welcomes applications for student leaders that will help to plan, develop and implement the 2012 New Student Orientation. A link to the application and recommendation form is on the right and below is further detailed information about the available positions. NSO Overall Chairs
·Serve on the committee that appoints all other NSO leaders
·Build the NSO student leadership team and foster a strong sense of community among team members
·Assume responsibility for carrying out fellow leaders’ event and project plans as needed during the summer of 2012
·Develop proposals for and implement the President’s Welcome, Opening Event, Community Dinner, Campus Tours, and Closing Event.
·Develop and implement a plan for print and electronic (coordinate with technology leader) communication to new students and their families, including materials such as the Save the Date and Early Drop-off postcards, Family Guidebook, Student Guidebook, Orientation Mailer, signage, etc.
Summer Camp Chair
·Help to plan and implement Summer Camp for incoming First-Year students in conjunction with New Student Programs staff
·Coordinate online registrations for campers with Technology Leader
·Plan and implement recruitment and selection of Camp Counselors
·Plan and implement training for Camp Counselors
·Form camper groups, assigning counselors to campers
·Participate in Blue Crew training for campers
NSO Chairs
·Assist with the execution of other orientation events by helping fellow Leaders throughout orientation
·Meet regularly with staff to fulfill responsibilities
·Perform duties as assigned by the Graduate Assistant for New Student Programs, Assistant Director of New Student Programs and the Director of New Student Programs
·Will serve as Camp Counselors, if needed
·Students may be selected for the following areas of concentration:
o Assistant to the Overall Chairs
o Technology Chair
o Academic Engagement Chair
o First Year Read Chair
o Move-in and Transportation Chair
o Spiritual Formation Chair
o Social Engagement Chair
o Special Populations Chair
o Parent and Family Chair
Camp Counselors
·Will assist Summer Camp Chair in organizing and implementing Summer Camp for incoming First-Year students (upon return to campus on July 25th)
·Will be assigned to a group of First-Year students during Summer Camp session
·Will serve as an Orientation Leader for a Welcome Team during New Student Orientation
Blue Crew Leaders
·Will assist NSO Chairs with preparation for New Student Orientation (upon return to campus on July 25th)
·Will be assigned to oversee Blue Crew at a specific residence hall on move-in day
·May be assigned to a group of First-Year students during Summer Camp session
·Will be responsible for working social events during New Student Orientation
Orientation Leaders
·Return to campus August 16th for training
·Will be assigned to a Welcome Team with one Faculty or Staff member to facilitate Small Group Discussions
·Will be assigned to assist one Faculty or Staff giving a First Flyer Class presentation
·Will serve as ushers for various designated events
