Lackner Award Recipients
The Lackner Award is named in honor of Brother Elmer Lackner whose influence permeated nearly all areas of University life. Brother Elmer, known as Mr. UD, served at the University of Dayton for forty-five years. When Brother Elmer died in 1984, the UD Marianist priests and brothers established this award. The Lackner Award is given to full-time UD lay faculty or staff who, over a significant period of time, have made a noteworthy contribution to the Catholic and Marianist character of the University of Dayton.

The Marianist Award Recipients
The Marianist Award derives its name from the title familiarly given to members of the religious orders founded by Blessed Fr. William Joseph Chaminade and Venerable Mother Adèle de Batz de Trenquelleon.
Established in 1950, the Marianist Award was originally presented to men and women who had made outstanding contributions to Mariology in America. In 1967, the concept for the award was broadened to honor individuals who had made outstanding contributions to humanity.
The Marianist Award was revived in 1986 when the University of Dayton announced that it would again present the award annually, this time to honor a Roman Catholic whose work has made a major contribution to the intellectual life. The award includes an original piece of Marian-themed art and a stipend of $5,000.

Marianist Service Award Recipients
The Marianist Service Award was established in 1987 by the members of the Society of Mary employed at the University of Dayton. Each year, this award honors two full-time staff personnel whose behavior, over a significant number of years, is congruent with all the elements that constitute both the Catholic and Marianist character of the University.
Nominations are made by the vowed Marianists employed at UD, members of the Rector's Council, and previous award recipients. These nominations are accepted annually during the month of October. If you would like to make a nomination, please contact a member of one of these groups.
