Learning-Living Communities

All first-year students living in a residence hall at the University of Dayton are members of a learning-living community. Through involvement in this foundational, cornerstone experience, you are encouraged and challenged to:

  • Open your mind to learning in community and to different perspectives; dive deeply into academic engagement, the joy of learning and make new discoveries with peers and faculty
  • Open your heart to inclusive relationships with diverse people, and find the quality relationships through which you can encourage others and be blessed, both at the University of Dayton and far into the future
  • Open your will to the possibility of engaged membership in a reflective community that serves others; together you will have opportunities to discover a sense of passionate purpose, the place where your talents and desires can benefit others.

As a first-year student, you will be able to choose between:

  • Learning-Living Communities, where you participate in programs and activities throughout the year that interweave experiences inside and outside the classroom.
  • Integrated Learning-Living Communities, where you enroll in two or three courses together with other students in your Community, and share in activities outside the classroom that deepen your experience of learning about particular topics.

LLCs focus on establishing connections and achieving success both inside and outside the classroom. As part of a LLC, you’ll develop relationships that will strengthen and support your learning experiences. By participating in engaging activities outside the classroom, you will realize your talents, focus on your goals and successfully navigate the transition into college life.
