Libraries and Collections

Roesch Library
Occupying most of the Roesch Library building, the general library of the University of Dayton is named for Father Raymond Roesch, S.M., President of UD from 1959-1979. The Roesch Library offers leading-edge technology, houses more than 1.3 million volumes and subscribes to more than 8,400 print and electronic journals. A partner in OhioLINK, the University of Dayton libraries share resources with 84 state and private academic and research universities from around the globe. UD's online catalog contains records for materials from all the University's libraries and special collections.

Marian Library
The Marian Library/International Marian Research Institute houses the world's largest and most comprehensive collection of printed materials on Mary. In addition to the collection, it is known for its information, research, devotions, and artwork about the Blessed Virgin Mother.

University Archives
The University of Dayton Archives was established to preserve the University's history. The Collection includes materials dating from 1850, when St. Mary's Institute was founded as a grammar school for boys, to the University's present status as a well known Catholic and Marianist institution of higher learning.

Special Collections
Special collections are housed with the Rare Books department and the University Archives. The eclectic Rare Book Collection includes manuscripts and early and limited edition books. A growing U.S. Catholic Collection documents the American Catholic experience. Additional special collections highlight sports, the arts, politics, and the pursuits of UD alumni. These collections contain rare prints, drawings, maps, photographs, art objects, and audiovisual recordings.

Leisure Reading Collection
The Leisure Reading Collection covers a wide range of fiction and non-fiction genres, and is updated frequently to include the most popular titles. Books have been chosen to encourage reading for pleasure.

Zimmerman Law Library
The Zimmerman Law Library, located in Keller Hall, provides the law school and undergraduate community, as well as lawyers, judges, and the public with access to printed legal materials and microfilms. It supports research in Anglo-American, foreign, comparative and international law.
